2001 Discovery One CG Model Test Render Near Mars

A test render to see how the Discovery One looks near Mars. Will have to work more on the ambient shading a bit.

Test Firing of Discovery One's Thrusters

I opened an old Vue file and imported the newly modeled backend into the scene. This is a lighting test of the thrusters so far. I was debating whether to add lens flares for them or not. But this isn't 2009 anymore.

2001: A Space Odyssey Discovery One Near Completion

I joined the assembled reactor and engines to the rest of the Discovery ship. It's starting to look like the real deal finally. I want to thank the YouTubers that have been posting videos of their plastic models of this vessel, which motivated me to continue work on my 3D model.

2001 Discovery One Out of Mothballs

After six years, I started continuing work on my 2001 Discovery One model. This is the back end of the ship. I'm guessing the nuclear power part that provides energy and thrust for the vessel. It's way in the back because of the radiation, etc.

I've been watching YouTube videos showing off this spaceship at 1/144 scale. The plastic model is about as accurate as anything else (see artistic license). So I've been modeling a little bit from the movie and from the YouTube videos.

My CG model is of course inaccurate because I model things by eyeball rather than from exact measurements. And mine is lo-res, since I mostly do lo-res renders of my models. Rarely do I do HD.
